Menegroth Menegroth, the 'Thousand Caves', was the city in the land of Doriath which was home to king Thingol and queen Melian of the Sindarin people. It was there that Thingol was slain by the Dwarven craftsmen of Nogrod. Girdle of Melian The fence of enchantment set around Thingol's kingdom of Doriath by Melian his Queen, preventing entry into his land without his will and consent. Nan Elmoth Nan Elmoth was the forest in Beleriand east of Doriath and south of the River Celon. Melian enchanted Thingol in Nan Elmoth, before they founded the realm of Doriath. Later the trees grew to be the tallest and darkest in Beleriand, blocking the sun entirely from the forest floor, and Eöl the Dark Elf dwelt there. Doriath

Doriath was the land of the Sindar. It was called the Fenced Land (Dor-iath), for its queen, Melian, put a girdle of enchantment about it, so that nobody could enter without King Thingol's permission. Doriath was a realm of forests about the great river Sirion, with in it the forests Neldoreth (also Taur-na-Neldor, the northern beech forest), Nivrim (also West-march, an oak forest), and Region (pronounced Reh-gi-on, the main forest). Additionally, the forests of Brethil and Nan Elmoth were held as part of Doriath, but these last two lay outside the Girdle of Melian. King Elu Thingol of Doriath, also High King of the Sindar, saw all of Beleriand as his realm, from the Gelion to Belegaer.
